Thunderbird Bracelet

Richard Hunt and other aboriginal artists insist that their work be viewed as cultural art. Their art must respect their traditions. Every time they create an artwork within the cultural context, it must be both aesthetically pleasing and traditionally correct. Richard now manufactures traditional art only in the style of the Kwagiulth, using only the appropriate designs and crests owned by his people, his family, or himself. Rather than considering this as a restriction, Richard finds his traditions to be the inspiration for the creation of new and imaginative interpretations and configurations of time-honoured themes.

Queen's Baton, 1994

In 1986, Richard left the Museum to pursue a career on his own. Since then, his artistic accomplishments and his reputation have continued to grow. In addition to producing carvings, paintings and serigraphic prints, he has expanded his repertoire to include jewelry, engraved rings, pendants and bracelets from gold and silver. Richard produces each piece to order and works with his clients to create unique works of art.
